Luton airport is planning a 57% growth, that could lead to the creation of an addition 6,000 jobs and allow the airport to facilitate a further seven million customers a year.

The London Luton Airport Limited (LLAL) aims to provide services for 18 million passengers each year, following claims of a shortage of air travel options in south east England.

The LLAL intends to create an extra runway, but insists that the expansion can be within the airport’s existing boundary.

LLAL Chair, Councillor Robin Harris, says: “The benefits that will flow from the airport’s development will be realised in the local, regional and national economies,” he said.

“We are committed to ensure the airport will continue to be a good neighbour and any growth in passenger numbers is managed in a responsible manner. Impacts on the environment, noise and road traffic flows will be fully evaluated as part of the process.”
